Premium Car Audio — New Zealand

Better Sound.
Any Hyundai.

Hyundai's range covers more ground than almost any other brand in New Zealand — from the IONIQ 5 and its whisper-quiet EV cabin, through the Tucson, Santa Fe, Kona, and Palisade, to the Staria van and the i20 N hot hatch. Each one arrives with a different factory audio story. Some come with Bose, Infinity, Harman Kardon, or Krell premium systems that just need the right signal processing to perform as they should. Others start with a standard 6-speaker setup that responds immediately to proper amplification and bass reinforcement. Either way, the upgrade path is the same: no shortcuts, no unnecessary complexity, and nothing that changes how the car looks or behaves from the factory. We've worked on Hyundais across the range — the results speak for themselves.

Worth knowing

Hyundai's premium audio options vary significantly by model and generation — Bose on current IONIQ 5, Tucson, Santa Fe, Kona, and Venue upper trims, Infinity across the entire Palisade range, Harman Kardon on previous generation Santa Fe and Kona, and Krell on the previous generation Tucson Limited. All are capable systems held back by factory tuning. A DSP amplifier doesn't replace them — it unlocks them.

Electric

Electric — IONIQ 5 & Kona Electric

The IONIQ 5 is Hyundai's flagship EV and one of the more rewarding audio upgrade platforms in the range. Most NZ models are Elite or above, which means Bose is already on board — 8 speakers with external amplifier. Capable hardware that a multichannel DSP amplifier transforms into something exceptional. The quiet EV cabin works in your favour — less road noise means more of the music, and more of every flaw in the system. Earlier Kona Electric models also respond well to the same approach, with a clean upgrade path regardless of factory audio spec.

SUV & Family

SUV & Family — Tucson, Santa Fe, Kona, Palisade & Venue

Hyundai's SUV range is where most of the volume sits. The Tucson and Santa Fe are the bread and butter — both run Bose on upper trims, standard 6-speaker on entry variants. The Kona follows the same pattern. The Palisade is the standout — Infinity 12-speaker with subwoofer and external amplifier standard across every variant, making it the most consistent premium upgrade platform in the range. The Venue rounds out the family end with Bose on the top HX 10 trim. Previous generation models with Harman Kardon or Krell are equally well served — the DSP approach works regardless of which premium system is fitted.

Van & Performance

Van & Performance — Staria & i20 N

Two very different vehicles, same upgrade logic. The Staria runs standard audio across the range — a compact subwoofer, amplification, and door deadening make an immediate difference in a cabin built for practicality. The i20 N is the other end of the spectrum — a hot hatch with a driver-focused brief and an owner who wants everything to match. Standard 6-speaker from the factory, clean upgrade path, and a system that suits the car's character without changing how it looks or drives.

Hyundai System One Audio Upgrade
System One

Better Bass.
Better Clarity.

The factory audio's "little helper".

  • Compact underseat subwoofer
  • Sound deadening — front doors
  • Two-channel amplifier
  • Power kit, cables and minor parts
  • Installation and calibration

The foundation upgrade. A compact subwoofer fills the low-frequency gap the factory system can't reach, sound deadening across the front doors reduces road noise, and a two-channel amplifier adds power and control. Factory head unit stays. Nothing looks different.

Hyundai System Two Audio Upgrade
System Two

Multichannel DSP.
Factory System Unlocked.

DSP precision. Every speaker, individually controlled.

Tailored quote — contact us
  • Compact underseat subwoofer
  • Multichannel DSP amplifier
  • Full individual speaker timing, phase and EQ calibration
  • Sound deadening — front doors
  • Power kit, cables and minor parts
  • Installation and calibration

A multichannel DSP amplifier takes independent control of every speaker in the vehicle — timing, phase, and equalisation corrected per channel. For standard-spec Hyundais, it transforms what's already there. For Bose, Infinity, Harman Kardon, and Krell-equipped models, it unlocks what the factory tuning was never designed to provide.

New Zealand's car audio specialists.

Rapid Radio has been installing and calibrating car audio systems in Auckland for over two decades. We work across the full spectrum — from everyday EVs through to Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, and Tesla — with every build calibrated by ear to the vehicle and the owner. No compromise installs. Factory-clean finish. Every time.

No two builds are the same — and that's the point.

Because the DSP is the engine of every upgrade, the hardware around it is entirely flexible. Entry-level speaker sets will sound dramatically better than the factory system — and world-class reference components will do things the factory engineers never imagined. We work across the full range, from practical upgrades to reference builds, and every system is calibrated by ear before you leave.

Components are specified on merit for every build — not habit.

How long does the installation take?

Most Hyundai audio upgrades are completed in a single day. More involved builds like what you see in System Two and System Three will require two to three days,

How much does a Hyundai audio upgrade cost?

Pricing depends on your model, factory audio configuration, and the system you choose. System One starts from under $2,000 installed for most models. System Two and Three pricing varies based on DSP unit selection and component choices — contact us for a quote specific to your Hyundai.

Will an audio upgrade affect my CarPlay or factory features?

Every system we install leaves the factory head unit and all factory controls in place. CarPlay, Android Auto, steering wheel controls, and Hyundai Bluelink features all work exactly as before. Nothing is removed. Nothing is bypassed. The upgrade sits behind the scenes.

Does the IONIQ 5's electric cabin make a difference to audio upgrades?

The quiet cabin in the IONIQ 5 works in your favour. Less road noise means more of the music is audible at lower volumes — and it also means any weakness in the factory system is more noticeable. Most IONIQ 5s in NZ are Elite or above, which means Bose is already on board. A DSP amplifier transforms what Bose is capable of in that cabin.

My Hyundai has Bose, Harman Kardon, or Krell audio. What are my options?

Bose appears across several current Hyundai models — IONIQ 5 from Elite, Tucson from Elite, current Santa Fe from Elite, Kona from Elite, and Venue HX 10. On previous generation models, Harman Kardon appeared on the Santa Fe and Kona, and Krell on the Tucson Limited. All of these are capable systems held back by factory tuning. A DSP amplifier doesn't replace them — it unlocks what's already there. The factory interface works exactly as before.

My Palisade already has Infinity premium audio. What can you do with it?

The Palisade is the only Hyundai where premium audio is standard across every variant — Infinity 12-speaker with subwoofer and external amplifier on all trims. That's a genuinely capable system. What it lacks is the signal processing to realise its full potential. A multichannel DSP amplifier is the upgrade — same hardware, dramatically better results. System Two is the natural fit.

What about the Staria — can that be upgraded?

Yes. The Staria runs a standard 6-speaker system across all variants — there's no premium factory audio option in the range. That makes it a clean upgrade path. A compact subwoofer, amplification, and door deadening make an immediate difference in a cabin that prioritises practicality over acoustics.

Can you upgrade the audio in an i20 N?

Yes. The i20 N is a standard 6-speaker car from the factory, which makes it a clean and straightforward upgrade. The enthusiast owner demographic suits System One or Two particularly well — more power, better imaging, and a subwoofer that matches the car's character without changing how it looks or drives.
